If you are currently scrolling through Google, heavily pregnant, trying to figure out where to go, what to wear, and what on earth to do if it rains — this is the ultimate guide for outdoor maternity photography in London.

My maternity photo sessions are entirely about a relaxed experience, genuine emotions, and beautiful images that you can’t wait to hang on your walls. There will be no need to look at the camera. You being present and showing your love for each other are my only magic ingredients.

If you are looking for a relaxed lifestyle pregnancy photo session with a touch of documentary, and your favourite photos include real moments of chaos, love, and joy, then this guide is for you. Let's design your perfect park session together.

Top 10 London Parks for Maternity Shoots (and Why They Work)

We are so lucky to have so many green spaces in this city. Every park has a completely different energy, and I want to take you to the one that matches your family's soul. Here are the places I adore shooting in the most:

  • Richmond Park: Wild and quiet. It gives a very dramatic look. The deer and the light at sunrise or sunset are just perfect here, and it is so easy to get away from the crowds. If you love vast landscapes, wild tall grass, and quiet spaces away from the crowds, this is a dream. The light at sunrise or sunset here is pure magic, and you might even share your backdrop with the local deer.

  • Holland Park: I adore it because there is so much diversity in such a small space. You get the manicured gardens, the hidden woodland areas, and dramatic light—plus a cute café for a break. As a bonus, we can easily wander out into the cute nearby Notting Hill streets for a mix of nature and classic London architecture.

  • Greenwich Park: This is my local neighbourhood! It is absolutely perfect for rolling greenery, but then you also get the gorgeous architecture of the village, which is a World Heritage site. As a local favorite, this park blends rolling greenery with the breathtaking, grand architecture of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage site. It is perfect for a mix of sweeping hilltop views and village charm.

  • Hampstead Heath: I cannot stress how perfect the Heath is. Wild textures, deep woods, and a completely untamed, romantic vibe. It is perfect for families who feel most at home surrounded by pure nature.

  • Wimbledon Common: Wimbledon Common is a perfect, rustic woodland heaven.

  • Dulwich Park: Dulwich Park is fantastic, especially in spring with its flower gardens. It works wonderfully even on a cloudy day!

  • Gunnersbury Park, West London: in terms of green spaces in London this is one of the overlooked gems, rarely you can have such diversity and room to roam without heavy crowds.

  • Kensington Gardens: beautiful and centrally located, perfect for visiting families based in Central London.

  • Cannizzaro Park in Wimbledon: South West London is spoiled with great green spaces and Canizzaro Park is no exception. Peaceful paths leading to the most wonderful gardens and woodland walks.

  • Wanstead Park: my favourite peaceful green oasis in East London.

We are incredibly lucky to live in a city so rich in green spaces. Every park offers a completely different vibe, and the best choice depends entirely on what feels most like you.

The "Four Seasons in Two Hours" Weather Policy

Let’s talk about the weather. Why? Because we live in England, haha!

If you are not used to the British weather, the forecast sometimes feels overwhelming. In five years, I have become a weather detective, constantly checking the forecast with a non-trusting eye, but at the same time becoming super relaxed about it.

The cloud movement is so fast here that quite often we have four different seasons in two hours! And I think this kind of weather goes perfectly with my photography style – I don’t look for perfect sunshine or the perfect mantelpiece photo, but for LOVE.

Here is exactly how I handle it:

  • Heavy Rain: I always make sure to check the forecast a couple of days before the shoot. In case of heavy rain on the morning of our shoot, we can easily reschedule for another date depending on your availability.

  • Light Rain: A bit of light rain adds drama to the photos, and that’s fine with me. I find that most of the time, a bit of light rain is the perfect opportunity for a coffee or snack break until the sky has cleared again and we can capture more smiles.

  • Embracing the Mess: My clients are people who don’t care if a bit of rain shows up in their photos or if the kids get dirty during our shoot. If it’s cold – we put an extra layer on; if it rains – we jump in puddles! Trust me, lovingly interacting with your children is more priceless than any designer dress. These will be your most dear memories as they grow up.

What to Wear - Comfort First - Styling Your Baby Bump for the Outdoors

I generally recommend you wear comfortable shoes and clothes that truly represent you. Comfort is key. During our shoot, we walk a lot, we run, and we lift kids up in the air—trust me, you will want the comfy shoes and outfits that don’t require stiff poses!

For maternity, flowy dresses that showcase the bump work great. Here are my guiding tips (not rules of law by any means!):

  • Subtle over Loud: It’s best to avoid wearing bright colours and large prints as these tend to steal the attention away from the happy smiles. Plain-coloured clothing works wonderfully. If you love prints, choose more subtle ones so they don't overpower the image.

  • Pastel & Neutral Tones: These look great in family photos. Light pinks, peach, whites, and blues. If you don't find pastels flattering, neutral tones work just as well: white, beige, or grey.

  • Warmer Tones: These look great especially in the colder season: rusty red (not too bright!), mustard, or a toned-down yellow. If the colours are too bright, they might reflect onto skin tones on a sunny day.

  • Jewel Tones: Very lovely, as long as they are balanced with lots of lighter tones.

  • Textures, Textures, Textures! Textures can elevate a photo from a 5 to a 10. They add a deeper depth to our photos: chiffon, leather, silk, linen, and wool.

As long as you feel comfortable and authentic to YOU, the images will be perfect.

Pacing & Posing: Go With the Flow

  • The Best Time of Day: We will always aim for sunrise or sunset. This gives us the absolute best, most dramatic light, and it allows us to completely avoid the daytime park crowds.

  • The Best Week to Book: As a rule, I would say book when your bump shows and you feel comfortable to enjoy a long walk in the park. That can be anytime between 26 weeks and 39 weeks. A sweet spot is around 32–35 weeks, but again, I have photographed anything between 22 and 40 weeks—so go with the flow and let's just focus on capturing precious memories.

Tender and Sweet Moments That Matter

You know that incredible feeling when your child cuddles you? That rush of serotonin warmth coupled with a gentle "I love you" whisper...? Well, that’s the FEELING I want to capture in your family photos so you could hold on to it forever.

I think of my photography as capturing little time machines with moments that matter. Moments full of family romance. I like finding tenderness and sweetness in daily tasks. Almost as if my camera lends a perspective from the future. A future where these moments are everything.

I will let you play, engage, cuddle, hug, kiss, and my camera will be the witness capturing this timeless magic:

  • A parent wiping a runny nose.

  • A gentle touch and smile for your tired baby.

  • Digging for worms with your toddler.

  • A tight hug that almost hurts.

  • Young kids that never stop following mum.

  • A sweet gaze to your partner saying “what an amazing madness.”

This is where love lies, and I aim to capture all these loving moments of connection.

If you are ready to create your own little time machine in one of London's beautiful parks, send me a message here. I cannot wait to meet and capture such a special time for you and your family.
